What is Graphic Design?

Graphic Design is the process and art of combining text and images to communicate an idea effectively. Images can be incredibly powerful and compelling tools of communication, conveying not only information but also moods and emotions.

Graphic Design spans the history of humankind, from the cave paintings of Lascaux to the dazzling neon lights of Tokyo's Ginza district. Graphic Design is all around us. It is in our morning paper, on our commute to work, and on the cover of our favorite books. Product packaging, posters, book design, magazine and newspaper layout, and greeting cards are obvious examples, but ticket stubs, skateboards, matchbooks, train schedules, credit cards, and countless other products and everyday items all use Graphic Design.

Graphic Design is a very exciting career to enter into. You'll often be working with cutting-edge technology, using your creativity, and having fun doing it. If you pay attention to detail, are patient, creative, and like solving problems, then you are well on your way. What is Graphic Design? It's a creative career that finally rewards you for all of those doodles you made during class.
